Thanks to our friends at the Union Square Dog Run, pets can enjoy a respite from the city streets and run around on the gravel, make new friends, and play catch. Owners can enjoy shade from our signature blue umbrellas dispersed throughout the run.

Snow Storm Stella may be on her way to New York, but that doesn’t mean Pi Day can’t be celebrated in all its glory. March 14th acknowledges the mathematical constant π (pi), or the ratio of a circle’s radius to its circumference’s first three digits, but for foodies everywhere, it gives us an excuse to devour some of the best pies in New York. While you stock up on snow day essentials, be sure to add pie to your grocery list.

The Coffee Shop (29 Union Square West) is New York’s go to spot for Banana Cream Pie with fresh banana custard drizzled in warm chocolate sauce.

The Union Square Greenmarket in Union Square Park has seasonal pies with the freshest fruits from local producers and is open every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Pick up ingredients at Whole Foods (4 Union Square South) and put a pie in the oven on a freezing day. This recipe for pumpkin apple pie promises to satispie.

1. Union Square Sweat Fest | Don’t give up on those New Year’s resolutions! SWEAT in Union Square with our third annual celebration of Union Square’s health and wellness scene. 3. Exceptional Off-Broadway Theatre | In February, The Vineyard Theatre introduces John Kander and Greg Pierce’s Kid Victory directed by Liesl Tommy, a hauntingly mesmerizing new musical about seventeen-year-old Luke returning to his small Kansas town after a wrenching one-year absence. Tickets are now on sale! Across the street, the Daryl Roth Theatre presents Vox Luminere’s Phantom Of The Opera, a unique take on the classic musical.

4. New Tech Center on the Way | This season, NYC’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) will soon reveal the team selected to redevelop the city-owned site at 124 East 14th Street into a new tech hub for a modern workforce. The project may include new office and retail space geared towards startups and co-working.

5. Project Farmhouse | The team behind the world-famous Union Square Greenmarket, GrowNYC, just launched Project Farmhouse, an event space and sustainability center that hosts workshops, galas, speakers, community meetings and interactive exhibits. The new space is located on 13th Street, on the ground floor of the Hyatt Union Square.

A Look at the New Union Square Cafe with The New York Times

We’re counting down the days for the opening of the new Union Square Cafe in October (reunite with the team early on Sep. 22 at Harvest in the Square) and thanks to this morning’s New York Times article by Michael Kimmelman, we can now fantasize about where we want to sit when it opens.

David Rockwell and the Rockwell Group have been “laboring to extract the DNA of the old Union Square Cafe and implant it into its new, very different body,” and Danny Meyer’s expert team including Union Square Cafe’s director of operations, Sam Lipp and executive chef, Carmen Quagliata offered their expertise down to the finest details. For example, a dissertation on the turning radius a barista needs behind the coffee station, and the effects of citrus on different types of wood.
