Free Movie Nights on the North Plaza August 3rd and August 10th
A New York summer isn’t complete without an outdoor movie night. We’re throwing it back to the 1980s for our Throwback Thursday movie nights featuring The Karate Kid on August 3rd, and Back to the Future on August 10th.
Here’s everything you need to know to have a successful Movie Night at Citi Summer in the Square:
Look for the big screen in the North Plaza along 17th Street between Union Square East and West across from Barnes & Noble.
Seating opens at 6:30 PM, however you are welcome to line up early for your seat entry at 6 PM. Don’t worry though – there’s not a bad seat in the house!
The early bird gets the goodies. The first 500 people in attendance receive Pret A Manger Popcorn and a Citibank Seat Cushion.
Shop for Athletic, Outdoor and Casual Footwear in One Department
Visitors and residents alike know there’s one store in the city to fill all your athletic needs at once, and now it’s taking its footwear experience to the next level. Today, Paragon Sports introduces Dept. 1908 – your destination for 2,500 curated styles of footwear in a fresh, new space with its own dedicated entrance at 21 East 17th Street.
The name gives a nod to Paragon’s New York City heritage as a family owned and operated and innovative specialty store since 1908.
”We felt that there was a void in the marketplace for the consumer experience while shopping for both technical and lifestyle product,” said Bruce Blank, CEO and President of Paragon Sports. “Dept. 1908 fills that void by offering an authentic NYC shopping experience through unmatched selection and on point expertise. Our Athletic, Outdoor and Casual Footwear departments have been brought together in an exciting new space while maintaining the specialty feel and staying true to the Paragon brand. ”
After 40 years, Summer in the Square keeps getting bigger and better – thanks in large part to our 2016 community sponsors and partners! We’re going to miss spending our Thursdays in the park with you so while we count down the weeks until Summer 2017, here are our top favorite moments from this past season’s free community programs:
10. Summer in the Square takes free bistro seating up a notch with free live entertainment, courtesy of The New School Jazz students!
9. There was no better way to stretch into our Summer Thursday than with sunrise yoga with New York Health & Racquet Club. Although, we’d argue that Ebony Fowler’s week of Zumba with Bryan could challenge every dance class you’ve been to in NYC.
Thursday, June 16th we kicked off our #USQSummer series, Summer in the Square, offering free morning and evening fitness, morning and afternoon kids events, and lunch and evening entertainment in Union Square Park.

We met Rocky the Chinchilla with Art Farm, put a kid inside a bubble with the Gazillion Bubble Show, danced the plaza away with Pon De Flo cardio, and had our breath taken away by the Peridance Contemporary Dance Company. This Thursday, June 23rd, we’re ecstatic to welcome a special marionette performance of Puss in Boots, Yoga Unplugged, the New School Jazz Trio over lunch and more.
#USQSummer runs through August, closing out the summer with two movie nights in the park. Pick and choose Continue reading →
