NEW This Year at Citi Summer in the Square

Spend Your Summer Thursdays in Union Square Park with Over 135 Free Events

There’s nothing like summer in New York City – and there’s especially nothing like summer in Union Square. Experience it to the fullest with the return of our Citi Summer in the Square series bringing you the best outdoor fitness, live shows, and kids activities every Thursday from June 15th – August 10th in Union Square Park.

We’re mixing it up for 2017 with a slew of new fitness classes, an off-Broadway children’s show, live dueling performances (think DJs, pianos), #ThrowbackThursday Movie Nights, and the best round-up of #USQDeals you’ve ever seen. Plus, get excited for giveaways, bubble gardens and more with title sponsor Citibank on the South Plaza every week.

Paragon Sports’ Studio Showcase

Manhattan’s premiere athletic business Paragon Sports knows what’s HOT on the city’s fitness scene, and they’re bringing the best studios to you for free morning fitness in Union Square. Join studios like Yoga Vida, Pop Up Yoga, and SYB for a 7 AM yoga flow, or get amped up for the day with cardio at 8 AM by Dancebody, Ash Fit, Cardio Sweat Party, Jen Rufo’s Controlled KHAOS, Pon De Flo and more. Visit citisummerinthesquare.nyc/summerlineup for instructor dates and details.

Dueling Performances

Every Thursday at 5 PM prepare to witness epic showdowns from some of NYC’s best performers at our NEW Dueling Performances. Each week, artists at the the top of their trade – think pianists, painters, DJs, beatboxers, tap dancers and more – will perform, and YOU will determine who is the ultimate champion. Find a full list of performers each week at citisummerinthesquare.nyc/liveperformances.

Where to Enjoy Public Seating in Union Square Park

Enjoy New Bistro Furniture Daily in Four Public Seating Areas

Spring has officially sprung, and that means public seating in Union Square’s plazas are back. This spring, the Union Square Partnership invested in new furniture for our public seating areas, which are managed daily by our Clean Team.

Hold a morning meeting outside, enjoy your lunch from your favorite #USQEats spot, or bring a book from Barnes & Noble or Strand Bookstore to read. Find a seat in the sun, or find shade under our blue umbrellas.

Broadway Pedestrian Plaza

On Broadway between 17th Street and 18th Street, enjoy a corridor of tables and chairs lined by planters filled with #USQBlooms. Plus, located in the center, get a charge at our solar-powered phone charging station.

The Top 10 Moments from #USQSummer 2016

After 40 years, Summer in the Square keeps getting bigger and better – thanks in large part to our 2016 community sponsors and partners! We’re going to miss spending our Thursdays in the park with you so while we count down the weeks until Summer 2017, here are our top favorite moments from this past season’s free community programs:

10. Summer in the Square takes free bistro seating up a notch with free live entertainment, courtesy of The New School Jazz students!

9. There was no better way to stretch into our Summer Thursday than with sunrise yoga with New York Health & Racquet Club. Although, we’d argue that Ebony Fowler’s week of Zumba with Bryan could challenge every dance class you’ve been to in NYC.

8. Complete with live drums, Reign Hudson brought her Tabura Fitness to the Square with CRUNCH for one Continue reading
