Honoring Our NYPD Officers at Safe City Safe Streets

Union Square Partnership Thanks Our Local NYPD Precincts For A Safe 2016

USP’s Executive Director, Jennifer Falk, and Operations Team, Tom DiRusso and McLawrence Glynn, present Midtown South Precinct Honoree Police Officer Alberto Ortiz with his “Officer of the Year” Award for his service to NYC.

In the neighborhood we call home, we are lucky to have the protection and support of multiple NYPD precincts working tirelessly to keep the district safe. At the annual Safe City Safe Street luncheon, along with our partners at Con Edison, NYU, Mount Sinai and Buchbinder & Warren, we were honored to sponsor and recognize NYC Police Department Commissioner O’Neill and the Greenwich Village Chelsea Chamber of Commerce’s “Officer of the Year” honorees from the 6th, 9th, 10th, 13th and Midtown South Precincts, as well as our partners at Transit District 4 for all they do for our community.

We encourage our residents, business owners and visitors to share their thanks with the NYPD, especially as they work over the holiday season to ensure our Continue reading

Celebrating the Holidays & Our Community Partners

Each year, it takes a village to keep Union Square safe, clean, beautiful and thriving.

Our annual holiday celebration is an opportunity to thank our long list of community partners, board of directors and staff for another great year working together to take the @UnionSquareNY district to even greater heights. And at this year’s event we had the chance to celebrate the ten year anniversary of our unflappable leader, executive director Jennifer Falk, with an award presentation.

“Jenn has worked tirelessly to ensure the neighborhood’s continued growth and success. Under her leadership, the organization has achieved many new milestones. This past year, Jenn raised $1.2 million over our annual assessment of $2.2 million, which is our largest annual fundraising total in the organization’s history. And earlier in her tenure, Jenn led the charge to complete our largest capital project to date, the $20 million North End Project, which tripled the park’s play space, rehabilitated the historic Pavilion, repaved the plazas, and enhanced the park’s overall landscaping. Every corner of the district has shown improvement and we are grateful to Jenn for her dedication to improving our community.” – BID President Lynn Brown and Co-Chair Bill Abramson

Over 250 guests attended the annual celebration held this year at new #USQEats, Union Fare. At the end of the evening, guests received gift bags which showed off some of Union Square’s finest – a special thank you to Cava Grill, GrowNYC, Peet’s Coffee, Starbright Floral Design, Strand Bookstore, Union Square Laser Dermatology, and Union Fare for the treats!

On Monday morning, First Lady of NYC Chirlane McCray kicked off Mental Health Week of Action in Union Square to connect New Yorkers to free, confidential mental health help during the holidays. Joining her was Deputy Mayor for Strategic Policy Initiatives Richard Buery, as well as American Horror Story actor Denis O’Hare, who both spoke about the need for better mental health resources for those in need.

“These winter days of sparkling holiday lights and family gatherings are often joyous. But for some people – such as people who are grappling with depression, anxiety, or substance misuse – this can be such a difficult time of the year. Our mission this week is to let New Yorkers know they don’t have to bear the burden alone” –  First Lady Chirlane McCray

After speaking to New Yorkers, the First Lady, Deputy Mayor and O’Hare passed out helpful literature on how to cope with holiday stress in the Union Square Greenmarket and Union Square Holiday Market by Urbanspace.
