Japanese Noodle Chain Makes Star Entrance to United States
Congratulations are in order for Union Square’s newest noodle go-to TsuruTonTan, located at 21 East 16th Street right off Union Square Park. The New York Times‘ restaurant critic Pete Wells (who really wants you to read his full review as he mentioned on Twitter) gave one star to the udon specialists who mix, knead, roll and cut the dough for their noodles on site – providing “a distinct physical pleasure that will surprise anybody who has had only shaggy, overcooked udon that starts breaking apart before you have a chance to chew it,” he says.
He shares that you’ll actually find the servers’ explanations of how to order helpful, and you’ll like it so much that you won’t mind you can’t take home leftovers….yet (the restaurant is still sourcing a takeout carton they’re satisfied with, Wells says).
