GrowNYC Announces Launch of “Oh SNAP!” Campaign with Live Mural Painting in Union Square Park

IMG_3153Today, GrowNYC and Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer launched the “Oh SNAP!” campaign with a live mural painting by artist Queen Andrea at the Union Square Greenmarket.  SNAP, which stands for Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, is a federal program that provides food-purchasing assistance to low-income individuals.  GrowNYC’s “Oh SNAP!” campaign is designed to draw attention to the network of Greenmarket farmers’ markets that accept electronic benefits cards (EBT).  Greenmarket pioneered the acceptance of EBT cards at markets like the Union Square Greenmarket in 2005 and became a model for farmers’ markets across the country. Over one-third of purchases made at Greenmarket farmers’ markets using SNAP were made in Union Square in 2015. Learn more about the campaign at www.grownyc.org/greenmarket/snap or #ohsnapnyc.
