Former NYC Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan will be back in Union Square on Wednesday for the first stop of her book tour with co-author Seth Solomonow and Talking Heads’ David Byrne at the Union Square Barnes and Noble. Now a Principal at Bloomberg Associates, Sadik-Khan led the one of the most sweeping revitalization of New York City’s streets in a half-century during her tenure as Transportation Commissioner from 2007 to 2013.
While Commissioner, Janette oversaw a $2.8 billion budget, delivering transformative projects including the pedestrianization of 2.3 miles of Broadway from Columbus Circle to Union Square. Janette launched many of her initiatives in Union Square, including Broadway’s Green Ribbon of pedestrian spaces in 2010, Summer Streets and the Look! campaign for cyclist safety in 2012, new commercial cyclist reforms and the launch of Citi Bike in 2013. The Union Square Partnership is proud to welcome her back for the release of Street Fight: Handbook for an Urban Revolution this week.
