Summer Streets is back this month with miles of car-free fun passing through the Union Square neighborhood. The pedestrian paradise launched last Saturday from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm when streets were opened for people to play, run, walk and bike. With tons of activities, you won’t want to miss the next two event days. On August 9th and 16th, the NYC Department of Transportation will again close Park Avenue to motor vehicles from Brooklyn Bridge, through Union Square, and up to Central Park. Last year, nearly 300,000 people came out to celebrate public space by cycling, walking and dancing in the streets. Activities dot the path, including arts and crafts workshops, musical performances, dance, healthy snack stations and more! Check out the full activity list on the Summer Streets website. Don’t forget to stop by Union Square Park along the way for a free historical walking tour at 2 PM each Saturday, meeting in front of the Abraham Lincoln statue along the 16th Street transverse.
