Your Guide to Fourth of July in Union Square

4th

Whether you want to enjoy a relaxing day barbecuing, take advantage of amazing deals, or spend the evening on a trendy rooftop bar, we’ve got the ultimate guide to July 4th in the Union Square neighborhood.

All Your BBQ Essentials

Greenmarket (Union Square Park): Head to the world-famous Greenmarket Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday and pick up farm-fresh fruit, vegetables, meats, wines, juices, and any other farm products you might need for your barbecue (we’ve got a District Deal for that).

Whole Foods (4 Union Square South): Whole Foods has recipe and dessert ideas that will make you the most popular person at your picnichot dogs. A favorite summer dessert is the locally-produced Sorbabes gourmet sorbet.  Don’t worry about offending anyone, the sorbet is vegan, gluten free AND delicious.

Union Square Wine and Spirits (140 Fourth Avenue): Manager Katherine Moore recommends a young, bright, and refreshing rosé wine for the weekend. Not just a sensible choice for its crisp taste, New York Times proclaimed rosé the summer drink.  Union Square Wine and Spirits features rosé from around the world.

Bedford Cheese Shop (67 Irving Place): Bedford Cheese Shop has a wide variety of American cheeses, pickles, and spreads that are perfect for any 4th of July gathering! Some cheese that is sure to impress comes from New York-based Vulto Creamery, which you may have also encountered at the Greenmarket. Vulto offers a “sweet” Miranda cheese and “funky” Ouleout that is perfect with IPA. Bedford Cheese Shop also recommends pickles and chips from two amazing Brooklyn-based companies: Sour Puss and McClure’s.

Duane Reade (52 East 14th Street, 873 Broadway, & 245 First Avenue): You can never go wrong at the seasonal aisle at Duane Reade.  Find all of your outdoor essentials including kids’ games, bug spray, sunscreen, spatulas, and decorative candles.

Party City (38 West 14th Street): Make your celebration extra colorful with zany costumes and star-spangled party favors. Festive items include themed plates, napkins, pinwheels, and noisemakers. Be sure to also check out the red, white, and blue top hats and the Uncle Sam costumes.
