At long last, we know you’ve been waiting all year for the one-and-only Union Square holiday market to open on the south plaza of Union Square Park. This year, 150 small New York businesses will have booths inside the market, offering a diverse array of products from historical prints and maps to children’s apparel and toys, gorgeous handmade jewelry and holiday ornaments. In the spirit of keeping it local, the market features a “Little Brooklyn” section, selling handmade goods made by Brooklyn artisans. Located at the center of the Digital District, the market is going high-tech this year with a new virtual market map and vendor directory, as well as a list of daily deals and special events calendar on an app called “Here” created by NYC-based company, Apparently, Inc.
The Union Square Holiday Market opens TODAY until Monday, December 24th; market hours are 11:00am to 8:00pm Monday through Friday, 10:00am to 8:00pm Saturday, and 11:00am to 7:00pm Sunday. The market is closed on Thanksgiving Day. For shoppers looking to assist those in the tri-state area affected by Hurricane Sandy, UrbanSpace will collect donations to the American Red Cross at the market information booth.
