8′ Tall Christmas Trees are $49.99 at Whole Foods Union Square

Yeah…we are delighted as well!  These aren’t just any trees.  These are Fraser Firs!  Known for their dark green color, full shape, classic aroma, and excellent needle retention, Fraser Firs are the gold standard in Christmas Trees.  Whole Foods has teamed up with Trees for the Future which will plant 5 new trees for every tree you buy.  The store will even deliver these green beauties to your apartment (note: there is a delivery fee). Pretty sweet, if you ask us.

Getting Festive for the Holiday/Winter Season

Temperatures are finally dropping and USP is on the move to dress the neighborhood in cheery greatness. Teams of gardeners were in the District yesterday putting in our new winter planters, hanging baskets on the light poles, and snazzy new wreaths adorning the Park.

Following Reponse to Sandy – Con Ed Scrubs Up Park Plazas

Superstorm Sandy brought widespread devastation to our City’s electrical network with millions losing power across the region.  Our partners at Con Edison did an amazing job, quickly fixing damaged equipment and bringing a million New Yorkers back online. Union Square Park’s north and west plazas served as a staging area for utility trucks and equipment sent from other parts of the country to assist Con Ed with the recovery effort.  Today, Con Edison came back to give the plazas a super good scrubbing to remove any oil or debris left behind.  Crews dispatched street sweepers and these awesome Zamboni-like machines.  The plazas have never looked better and we extend a big thank you to our friends at Con Edison for making this happen.

Tomorrow is Small Business Saturday!

Today as you’re tackling the racks of your favorite big retailer, remember to save some for the little guy this year during Small Business Saturday.  This isn’t just another name the media likes to throw around (“Cyber Monday,” really?).  This is a really important thing!  Small businesses significantly contribute back to the local economy  in jobs and neighborhood investment.  American Express is supporting this effort.  If you spend at least $25 on your AMEX at a small retailer on this very special Saturday, you’ll get it back on your statement.  That’s on top of whatever amazing sales the retailer is already offering.

So what little guys can you support in Union Square? Below is a list of retailers who need your love.  (Psst: Many of these guys have offers in our District Deals)
