A shiny new academic center for the New School is rising at the corner of 14th Street and 5th Avenue. The building, now partially donning its chic brown and glass skin, is drawing attention for its unique column placement. To many, the building’s frame looks crooked, but in actuality you’re witnessing novel engineering techniques at work. “It’s the most efficient way to carry all of the different structural loads of the building from the top of the foundation,” Joel Towers told Channel 4 New York. The building is expected to be fully operational by January 2014. Be sure to stop by and check out the buildings stunning progress for yourself.
