Members of NYPIRG have set up a table in the subway station under Union Square to register people to vote.  With the impending Presidential election, it might be a good idea to get on that soon!

LOOK! – New Anti-“Dooring” Campaign Announced

On this gorgeous fall morning, NYC Commissioners Sadik-Khan from DOT and Yassky from TLC, along with Deputy Mayor Wolfson, announced a new “anti-dooring” public awareness campaign on the pedestrian plaza just north of Union Square Park.  The campaign features decals on the windows of taxi cabs reminding people to watch out for cyclists when exiting.  This effort is an extension of their LOOK! campaign.  With so many pedestrians in Union Square Park (as well as cabs), it is important that people, of all modes of transportation, pay attention to reduce accidents. LOOK! decals can be found around the park etched in the pavement.   According to DOT, 26,000 orange-and-white window stickers will be provided to the city’s Taxi fleet and a new public service video will run on TaxiTV.

Today is Peace One Day

Walking through Union Square Park this morning, passersby were greeted with beautiful pots of white roses covering the south plaza.  The installation commemorated Peace One Day, a movement advocating a day of world peace.  Viewers were encouraged to take a little flower home with them (ours is brightening up the office!).  Here’s to peace!

Last night was a food evening to end all food evenings.  The tent was beautiful, the crowd was gorgeous, and the community support for Union Square Park was overwhelming.  The Union Square Partnership would like to thank everyone who participated.  Special thanks to the tireless work of our staff and sponsor support that made the event possible.  Don’t forget to like Harvest on Facebook and check out our Flickr gallery.
