Thank You for a Fantastic Summer!

The Union Square Partnership would like to thank all our sponsors and participants for a terrific Summer in the Square!  Relive the excitement and view our gallery of all the fun we had.  Remember to like Summer in the Square on Facebook to be the first to know about next year’s line up and get exclusive news and updates on our 2013 program.  We look forward to seeing you next year!

Glaze sets up shop in Union Square

Imported from Seattle, Glaze recently opened its second New York location right here in Union Square. We stopped by and tried it and, despite us going a little overboard on the sriracha sauce, were thoroughly impressed. The new location is the perfect complement to Dos Toros next door and a welcome addition to our food-obsessed neighborhood. We highly recommend stopping by and trying it out!

Whether you don’t know what those digital numbers mean on the park’s south side or you’d just like to get more aquainted with the storied history of the City’s most iconic public space for freedom of speech and gathering, you must go on our walking tour. For one thing, it’s free. Secondly, it’s in Union Square Park – immediately adjacent to 11 different subway lines. You really don’t have any excuses left! The tour is every Saturday at 2:00 PM and meets in front of that big statue of Lincoln in front of the playground (on the 16th Street transverse). Since it’s on a Saturday you can swing by the greenmarket or some of our fabulous retailers afterwards. Sounds like a pretty good Saturday to us. You’re welcome.

2 amazing Peridance Company performances

Did you catch Peridance Company at this year’s Summer in the Square?  It was freaking amazing (see above).  There are two great showcases coming up at the center this weekend.  On Saturday, catch the Faculty showcase where Peridance dance instructors share their choreography, bringing in professional company dancers, or performing their work themselves.  Sunday it’s the student’s turn to show the moves they’ve mastered.   Any Peridance student may submit his or her choreography for consideration and this is your opportunity to check out the very best.  This all goes down at the Peridance Capezio Center at 126 East 13th Street.  See more information on our events calendar.

Iced Coffee Giveaway at Brooks Brothers near Union Square

You have to check out the new Brooks Brothers store just north of Union Square on Broadway. Not only is the store a really cool twist on the traditional Brooks Brothers, but they are giving away free iced coffee from Handsome Coffee Roasters each day from 12 PM to 5 PM, with no purchase necessary. If you haven’t noticed with all our free community programming, we’re huge fans of FREE. The give away lasts until August 24th, so stop by on your way over to Union Square Park.

Tomorrow is the last day of Summer Streets in Union Square

Where exactly did summer go?  Tomorrow marks the third and final Summer Streets day in New York City.  Glide through a car-free alongside the eastern side of Union Square Park from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM (see full map here). Make sure to stop by the Union Square Greenmarket these Saturdays for more of the fresh, local, organic love you’re used to on Saturdays. At 2:00 PM, don’t forget to swing by the Park for our weekly free historical walking tour. The tour meets at the Lincoln Statue in front of the playground and is the perfect complement to your auto-free adventure in Union Square.
