Despite the bustle of Union Square, Summer in the Square has introduced a new peace in the South Plaza at 9 AM. Today, yogis gathered for a free class provided by CLAY Health Club + Spa. For an hour, participants bent their bodies and posed in the sun.
Today the History Channel is in the North Plaza serving up sausage and games to visitors of the North Plaza. We stopped by earlier today to see what the excitement was about. The games are really fun (and there weren’t lines at the time of this writing). The cookout is part of a national tour the channel is doing. Come on down, they’re in the park till 6 PM. More information can be found here.
We did it. We brought a free zumba class to this year’s Summer in the Square and it seems you all had a great time (we did too!). Last night at 6 PM, hundreds gathered for a free Zumba Class from Peridance. We’ve never seen so many people doing a synchronized dance since the last Freddie Prince Jr movie. It was incredible. There’s more to come! Sifa will be swinging her hips again on July 19th and we’ll have other classes all summer long – see our full dance schedule.
PS: If you liked Zumba, you can get a free Peridance class and/or reduced tuition in our District Deals
Yesterday was the first day of Jazz in the Square in Union Square Park. The soothing sounds of musicians from the New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music was a delight of many brave parkgoers. The audience crammed under umbrellas and the canopy of park trees just to listen to the music against the gentle sound of the afternoon rain. It was really beautiful – see the photos below. Jazz in the Square coincides with our Summer in the Square program and runs every Tuesday this summer until August 7th.
