We’ve all seen our proud statue of George Washington in Union Square. This statue, by Henry Kirke Brown, depicts Washington riding into the city on Evacuation Day – the day we gained control of New York back from the British in the revolutionary war. Although Evacuation Day was November 25, 1783, this statue is a powerful symbol of American resilience against the British forces. Something to think about this 4th of July.
Happy Birthday America!
